Last Week's Speaker

Sorry there are no photos but we heard an exciting report from the District Playground Committee. Since 2010 with the assistance of The Emmanuel Foundation the district has sent 26 containers of playgrounds with assorted medical and school equipment at an estimated value of $2.6 million. We heard how the Edmonton Downtown club has had members "on the ground" in Belize to help build 8 playgrounds using help from 71 participants including Rotaract and Interact members.

There is in conjunction with this a literacy project in Belize City which has a project value of $125K. it includes library renovations, providing computer equipment, readers, sports equipment and a preschool program supplies. A total of 6 ambulances and 2 fire trucks have been sent.

Our club has participated in the playground projects over the years. Besides helping fund, we had some of our Interact members along with Erin Stephen travel to Belize this year to help build a playground.
