Lyle Johnson lives to outside the box to create better lives for those under served in our community and beyond.
It was this passion of his that attracted him to join the Rotary club of Sherwood Park in 2013 and has since then been an active member of the club.
In his time with our club, he has championed so many projects and also led the club as a President in the 2018/2019 club year.
Lyle, a great visionary and a great family man, lives in the Strathcona area and oversees the Emmanuel Foundation which serves the poor in tangible ways.
Lyle, a dynamic speaker, will be sharing a tidbit of his life story and his Foundation on September 18, 2020.
We still have gift cards for sale.
Also, we have started recruiting an outbound student for the 2021/2022 long term youth exchange program.
We plan to select a student by the end of October in time for them to obtain necessary travel documents and complete the orientation process for travel to a foreign country (TBD) in mid-August 2021.
Students must be older than 16 at the time of travel and younger than 19 when they return in June/July 2022.
If you know of anyone who may be interested please have them reach out to Erin at
We will also require host families for a minimum of 3 months during the program year.  If you are interested in hosting the inbound student please contact Angela Wood at
Last Week's Planting Field Trip
We had a wonderful day of fellowship planting, the Rotary members, Rotact members and Sherwood Park Community members participated in plantings of 70 various plants.
The original plan was to just plant trees, but with COVID we had to keep pushing the date until Strathcona deemed it safe.  The serendipitous push to the Fall allowed us to change from trees to include edible berry bushes.
With the guidance from Sam and Kyle the horticulturists from Strathcona we managed to get everything planted:
  • Viburnum dentatum “Ralph Senior “ which produces dark blue fruit. (For birds)
  • Mohichan Wayfaring Tree, which produces orange to black ornimental fruit. (For birds)
  • Silver Buffaloberry which produces deep red fruit for jellies. (For people and birds)
  • Corylus cornuta Beaked Hazel which produces edible nuts (For people and birds)
  • Kelsey’s Dwarf Dogwood which makes ornamental berries (For birds)
  • Cornus alba ‘Sibirica’ Siberian Dogwood the blue berries attract birds and the stems are used for rustic furniture
  • Viburnum letago Nannyberry brilliant red ornamental berries for the birds
  • Pussy willows great for absorbing water
