Announcements
The club needs someone or some people to coordinate a couple of activities.
  1. In September we are planning to focus on member recruiting. Send your ideas to President Bob.
  2. We hope to hold a "Wine Survivor" evening as a fundraiser in September. It has the potential to be a fun, social event and generate some funds for the club. Our newest member Steven Lee has volunteered to help Rod Kurylo set this up.
  3. November is the anniversary of our Charter. We hope to combine this important event with a club Christmas party. Later in the month of November would probably work well.

Last Week's Speaker

Inspector Chris Narbonne, head of Bylaw Enforcement here in the County spoke. Retired after 30 years with the RCMP in 2016, he took on this role in an attempt to bring focus to the group and modernize the department. In a very entertaining fashion he explained that the individuals in his traffic patrol group are a unique group and probably the best in the province. He explained that "they live on the salt of your tears". Their job along with his is to make sure nobody is seriously hurt or killed on our roads. He clearly has a passion for his job. He takes quite seriously his role but has great sense of humour.

Next Week's Speaker

We are inducting another new member. Try to attend and meet the "newbie".

Chantelle Kelly and Mike Gorski have volunteered to help coordinate speakers. You can help them by making suggestions of individuals from the community who could speak on an interesting topic.

Get to know
Steven Lee is our newest member. He was lead into the meeting by our very own Chantelle Kelly and inducted August 9. Steven is a long time Sherwood Park resident with his family. He is partially retired as an I.T. professional but still doing some contract work as his schedule allows. Steven heard about Rotary through his family volunteering at our food packaging events for Kids Against Hunger.  Please come to a meeting and say hello to Steven!
Rotarian of the Year
On August 2 Past President David awarded Vera Horn Rotarian for the 2018-2019 year. The award is a salute to her enthusiastic commitment to organizing the food packaging events and helping out at club activities.
