The next Zoom meeting will be next week on Friday, 26 June at 7:30AM. This will be Bob's final meeting of the Rotary year. He plans to do a review of the year and Present-Elect Mike will introduce his new board of directors and executive. So a secret until then.
Pssst! Don't tell anyone but I heard that David Asp is giving up the Past-President role and Bob Dawson is taking it over.
Introducing Meagan Olive
Last week's meeting was well attended. I saw 19-20 people online. Meagan Olive is one of our 2 newest members and took the opportunity to introduce herself.
Meagan is a proud east coaster growing up in Summerside P.E.I. Her family ran a plumbing business that she was involved in at an early age. That shaped her educational and career decisions. He first degree was obtained at the University of Prince Edward Island in Charlottetown. She obtained her masters degree in engineering at University of New Brunswick.
Since both she and her husband are engineers they decided they needed to come to engineering "Mecca" (Alberta). Initially they both worked for a consulting firm and lived in Spruce Grove. Given economic changes and career choices Meagan's husband now works at Sherritt and she works for the Alberta Capital Region Wastewater Commission. She and her husband moved recently moved to Sherwood Park with their 2 children.
In Meagan's spare time, she is involved with the County Library. It seems a logical extension she join Rotary because she recalls during her childhood her local library was a Rotary sponsored library. It also helps that her father-in-law in a long term Rotarian who coincidently recently moved to Sherwood Park. (Another recruit for us?)
Strathcona Food Bank & Grocery Gift Cards
The need is great even in our community so at a recent board meeting we voted to contribute $500 to the Food Bank. Our original plan was to conduct a food drive. We were going to ask individual Rotarians to help out donating and gathering needed food. That becomes risky in this environment hence the donation of money. As individuals you can still help out by purchasing Sobeys/Safeway gift cards from Erin Stephen then drop them off or mail them to the Food Bank. This helps out our Interact Club and the Food Bank. International Convention starts this weekend, 20-26 June. Although the event in Hawaii was cancelled, RI is attempting to put together an online convention. It is easy to sign up for 1 session or many. No cost, no travel just a small time commitment to sit at your computer. Check out the following website riconvention.org
Oktoberfest 19 September. This is still 4 months away so it is too early to cancel. The German Cultural Society still wants our help and participation.
Meal Packaging Event January 2021. Following the success this year OLPH Church will be the location again.
