For member interest there was a survey conducted recently amongst Edmonton regional Rotary Clubs. The intent was to find out what clubs are expecting members to pay for dues and meals. Of the 19 clubs that responded there were 13 that had dues higher than ours. Some still charge a fixed fee for meals like we did in past.

As this was the first meeting after a several week Christmas break we had several announcements.

 

We took a moment of respect for the victims and families of the plane crash in Iran. It never ceases to amaze how world wide events can affect us. Paul Humphreys had a colleague from the Mechanical Engineering Department at U of A who was on the plane.

 

Shine told us to watch for information coming on Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.

 

Neil is looking for help on 9 May to build beds for Sleep in Heavenly Peace. This will be a big build requiring lots of labour.

 

Brenda told us of a project the International Service Committee is considering. The goal is to help an Albertan Rotary Club partner fund a project for school children in Rwanda.

 

There were 6 members of our Interact Club present. Two of them immigrated to Canada in the past 5-6 years. They spoke of the joys and challenges coming from a different country and culture.
