Valentines Day Meeting

Our meeting today was busy. We had lot of visitors. A couple of Rotaract members, also visitors looking for a Rotary Club to join bolstered the attendance.

Steven Lee has been at work behind our website and Facebook page. Take a look; like us. Spread the "electronic word".

Sara from the German Language and Cultural Association spoke to us briefly. Last year they held an Oktoberfest with 200 in attendance. They are planning bigger this year with 500 tickets to be held at The Agora. We are in discussions to partner with the Association. This could be a great community event with activities starting in the afternoon for kids carrying on into the evening for the adults. Stay tuned for more information.

Vitally important facts for this day in history:
1924 IBM was formed
1949 a historic asbestos strike in Quebec
2005 some ex-PayPal employees formed Youtube

Warren's special Valentines breakfast.

Rotaract President Billy pledged $5000 for Emmanuel Foundation to ship a playground so that the Interact Club can assemble it in Belize.

Last Week's Speaker

David Churchill is the leader of 203 Sherwood Park Group of Scouts Canada. David in his youth went to RYLA and knows what an important experience that can be.

The scouts have activities to accommodate youth from the age of 5 to 25 years old. This group currently has 25 in beavers covering ages 5 to 7. There are 31 cubs from ages 8 to 10 and lastly 19 scouts from ages 11 to 14. They expect several of the scouts to move up to the next level next year. The group does its own fund raising to provide camps and adventures for boys AND girls.

David piqued our interest when he mentioned that the group is asking Sherwood Park Rotary Club to become their sponsor. They are not looking for money but to have a responsible community organization to help provide leadership for the local group. This could help cement Rotary's reputation in the community as a local supporter as well as international.
